The Center for Substance Use Training & Telementoring has led a wide range of educational programs to strengthen the healthcare workforce across a full spectrum of substance use topics – from prevention to treatment to long-term recovery. Our past initiatives share a common thread of building workforce capacity, advancing evidence-based practices, reducing stigma, and improving access to care. Though these projects have concluded, their impact continues to inform our work and future collaborations.

GetWaiveredTX

Launched in 2019, GetWaiveredTX was a statewide initiative to train and support providers in obtaining the federal waiver needed to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder. The program offered in-person and virtual high-quality training to help expand access to evidence-based treatment during a critical period of the opioid crisis. As of 2023, the waiver is no longer required, but the initiative played a key role in preparing providers and increasing treatment access during its time.

The DEA now requires new and renewing registrants to complete 8 hours of training on the treatment and management of substance use disorders. C-STAT provides this training through GetRegisteredTX.
